We Love Green
With two frenchies in the MUD team, we HAD to tell you about We Love Green festival. Taking place in the Bois de Vincennes in Paris, this festival was born to show how large-scale music events can also be eco-friendly. Sustainability initiatives are taken around Energy, Food, Water and Waste and are improved year on year. The entire site is powered by renewable energy and this year, one entire stage was even 100% auto-sufficient with Solar Electricity! The eco-friendly vibes are overwhelming on site, with local and organic food, 100% compostable plates and cutlery, as well as refundable eco-cups. All waste is selected and the festival has its own local compost! Naturally you will find dry toilets and if you are lucky, you’ll end up producing plant food in one of their brand new “toilets of the future”: solar powered toilets that turns your urine into mineral fertilisers! Pohoda
Next up in our list is Pohoda, the upcoming Slovak festival that is in everyone’s radar. Now considered one of the most prestigious European festivals, it was awarded the Green Operations Award in 2017 (European Festival Awards). Taking place on the Trencin Airport field, the scenery is magical and the location made easy to access with privatized trains from Bratislava to reduce car traffic. Pohoda is the only festival in Central Europe where biodegradable kitchen and restaurant waste is sorted and composted directly on site! The festival contributes to sharing eco-friendly mindset in the solar-powered Živica tent where discussions and eco-workshops take place. Location: Airport Trenčín – Slovakia | Headliners: The Chemical Brothers, Parov Stelar, Alt J, Solange, The XX, James Blake |Visitors: 30,000 green-festival-mud-jeans-review-Pohoda-3 Pohoda 2018 - Kotrhova
Secret Soltice
We said sunny days, what if instead it was sunny days and nights? Yes, sunny nights, this is not a joke! The Secret Solstice is the northernest eco-festival of them all! It takes place in Reykjavik on the longest day of the year when the sun never sets. Great for our mood, great for the planet! Bright days and nights means minimum lighting needed and lots of solar energy to be used. Oh and we almost forgot, the festival is powered by geothermal energy, these are the perks of living on a volcanic island! Location: Reykjavik, Iceland | Headliners: Steve Aoki, Clean Bandit, Stormzy, Gucci Mane | Visitors: 10,000 Secret Solstice 2018
Øyafestivalen
Norway is also leading the way when it comes to sustainable festivals! Ever heard of Øyafestivalen? They are rocking sustainability practices with 100% renewable energy and 97% organic food served. Also, don’t be scared by their edible plates, we hear they are delicious! The festival has recycling booths to bring back various things like cups, cardboard handles, popcorn cups and even cigarette butts! Even better, you can donate the money to selected NGOs. You’ll also be rewarded to come by bike on the location with a free bike repair/check! What’s not to love? Location: Tøyenparken, Oslo - Norway | Headliners: Artic Monkeys, Grizzly Bear, Kendrick Lamar, Patti Smith, St. Vincent | Visitors: 70,000 green-festival-mud-jeans-review-Øyafestivalen-4 Oyafestivalen 2018
